Zmurchyk to Merritt

Former Fernie Ghostrider Jeff Zmurchyk was traded to Merritt from The Trail Smoke Eaters in the last week of May.

Two years ago when Zmurchyk first started out in Fernie he had all the tools and ability but seemed to lack confidence. By January of that season he was a more confident player who was used against the best players and he would even carry the puck once in a while. By the time the playoffs rolled around Zmurchyk (who was named as the Ghostriders Rookie of the Year) had become a big part of the Ghostriders blueline that won a KIJHL Championship and a Bronze Medal at the Cyclone Taylor Cup.

We asked Rider Coach Will Verner about Jeff's time in Fernie.
Verner says "
Zimmer was a great kid, a great skater, and he moved the puck well for us" In the last two years he’s learned what it takes to be a Jr. “A” player and I think he’ll have a good year this year. He may not get a lot of points, but he’ll be a top shutdown guy".
